The decade every hen claims

90s Hen Party Dance Class NewcastleFive-part harmony, no auditions.

Nineties pop was designed for exactly this: five people, five positions, one chorus everybody already owns. That structure is a gift to a room full of hens who have never met each other, because within twenty minutes there are lines, there are jobs, and there is somebody who has appointed herself the one at the end. The routine gets pieced together by composing live, in one of three rooms we hire around the city or at whatever house your party has commandeered across the North East. £170 covers the ninety minutes for the entire group and £145 covers the hour, with the venue’s hire cost the only thing added. Zero experience assumed; the last time most of the room danced was a school hall.

Ask about my date

Tell me the date. That’s the hard part done.

Everything else is negotiable later — numbers shift, start times move, hens drop out and get replaced. What you get back inside the day is the availability answer, a recommendation on which of the three rooms suits your group, and the teaching fee and the room hire written out as two separate figures. The decade can even be swapped afterwards without anybody charging you for changing your mind.

Why it beats the other retro picks

Built for groups, not soloists.

The reason a 90s hen party dance class works so reliably is architectural. Nineties pop was written for bands standing in formation, which means the choreography naturally hands out roles — a front two, a back three, a bit in the middle where one person steps forward and everyone else points at her. Nobody is left hovering at the edge wondering what to do with their hands. Compare that with themes where the whole party mirrors one soloist and you can feel the difference within ten minutes. It also spans an unusually wide taste range for a single dance hen party: the Eurodance lot and the R&B lot and the one who only listens to Britpop can all be satisfied inside the same session, which is not true of most hen do dance class themes. And because none of it needs a film watched or a costume bought, it stays one of the least demanding hen party ideas an organiser can put in front of a group.

We had argued about the theme for six weeks. Four minutes into the first track that argument was over and nobody has mentioned it since.

Nineteen of us, one price, and a teacher who learned every name in the first ten minutes. I have organised worse things for far more money.

I had told everyone I would watch from the side. I lasted about ninety seconds and then spent the rest of it at the front with my sister.

Asked before every booking.

six things, answered properly ↓

Which side of the nineties do you lean into?+

Whichever one your group votes for with its reactions. The decade splits several ways — girl-band and boy-band pop, Eurodance, R&B slow jams, a bit of Britpop swagger — and the teacher arrives able to go down any of those roads. The choice gets made in the room, from the way people respond to the first few intros, not weeks earlier on a form.

Is there a kit list we need to sort?+

Whatever you can move in and whatever you have already got. Any themed outfit is your party’s own project — nothing is supplied, loaned or sold from this end — so crop tops and combats if the group is committed, leggings and trainers if it is not. Flat shoes beat heels either way, and there is no dress code to fall foul of.

How is the class priced for a group of twenty?+

Exactly the same as it is priced for a group of eight. £170 buys the ninety minutes and £145 buys the hour, for everybody present, with the venue’s hire cost quoted separately so you can see both numbers before deciding. At a hen house the venue side is zero.

Will the bride’s mam be able to keep up?+

She will, and in our experience she will enjoy it more than the twenty-somethings pretending to be too cool for it. Steps get taught slowly, repeated often and simplified on request, and there is a chair in the corner for anyone who wants five minutes off without a fuss being made.

Do you travel out to a cottage for this?+

Regularly. If the party has taken a place out towards Hexham, Morpeth or the coast, the teacher comes to you with the music sorted, and the venue cost disappears entirely because there is no room to hire. All that is needed is a floor big enough for everyone to stand in two rows.

What if the decade gets overruled later on?+

Yes. What you are holding is a date and a teacher, not a decade, so swapping is free right up to roughly a week beforehand. Groups change their minds constantly and it costs nothing at all to switch.

Should the group fancy something else.
