For the groups who want current, not retro

Ariana Grande Hen Party Dance Class NewcastlePonytail optional. Attitude less so.

Some parties do not want a nostalgia trip. They want the thing that is actually on in the taxi — clean commercial choreography, sharp arms, a bit of swagger through the chorus and a final shape worth freezing the video on. That is what this one is. Your teacher composes as they go, reading the room and pitching the difficulty exactly where your group can reach it, in one of three rooms we hire around the city or at whatever place your hen weekend has taken over across the North East. £170 covers ninety minutes for the lot of you, £145 the hour, and the venue’s hire cost is the only extra. No experience needed, and nobody gets put on the spot.

Date first. Details after.

Numbers wobble, times move, someone always drops out three weeks before. None of that matters yet. Send the date and roughly how many and you will have, inside the day, an availability answer, the room of the three that fits, and the two costs written separately so there is no working out to do. Swapping the theme later costs nothing, so an undecided group can still hold a slot.

The modern pick on the list

Feels like a real class.

There is a particular kind of hen party that finds the retro themes a bit naff and would rather spend the afternoon doing something that resembles an actual dance class. An Ariana Grande hen party dance class is built for exactly that group. The vocabulary is commercial — clean isolations, a snapped arm on the beat, weight dropped into the hip, the sort of thing you see in a music video and assume you could never do — and then it gets taught slowly enough that you plainly can. The payoff is that the finished clip looks choreographed rather than chaotic, which is not something every dance hen party can claim. It suits small groups especially well: eight or nine hens in a decent room can get genuinely sharp inside ninety minutes. And because nothing is off a shelf, the hen do dance class you get is scaled to whoever is standing there — harder if the room can take it, softened the second it cannot. Of all the current-music hen party ideas, this is the one people ask for by name.

i

Settle in

Shoes swapped, a quick sense of who has danced before, and the music on early so nobody has time to overthink it.

ii

Find the attitude

Isolations and weight changes drilled gently, which is where most of the sharpness in the finished thing comes from.

iii

Layer the phrase

Short sections built and repeated, with the bride handed the moment everybody else frames — and yes, she will be made to do it again.

iv

Take it from the top

Music up, a run or two on camera, then far too long spent watching it back and arguing about who was on the wrong foot.

choreography made for the ten people in front of the teacher, not for a filing cabinet

Ninety minutes£170+ the venue’s hire cost

The length that lets a commercial routine get genuinely tight before the camera comes out.

One hour£145+ the venue’s hire cost

Enough for a short, sharp phrase when the afternoon is already spoken for.

Where

Rooms with mirrors where it counts.

This theme benefits more than most from a proper floor and something to check your lines in, which is why the three rooms we hire were chosen the way they were. You are told which room is yours and what its hire costs before you agree to anything, and two of them sit a few minutes from the Diamond Strip for whatever happens after.

Two verdicts.

01
We wanted something that felt current rather than a nostalgia thing, and this was it. Sharp, a bit sassy, and we all looked far better at it than we had any right to.

Eight of us in a flat with the sofas against the wall. Somehow that was more fun than any club we went to later that night.

the six that come up most ↓

How hard is Ariana choreography for beginners?+

Sharper than a retro theme, and deliberately so — that snap is the whole appeal — but the difficulty dial sits with the teacher, not the artist. Steps get broken into halves, slowed to a crawl and rebuilt until the room owns them. Nobody needs dance experience, and a group that has never taken a class still walks out with something that looks properly choreographed.

Should we be dancing in heels for this?+

Only if you already know you can, and even then bring flats as a backup. Nothing in the session requires them, none of it is supplied by us, and a hen who spends ninety minutes worrying about her ankles is not enjoying her afternoon. Trainers give you far more of the movement.

Tell us exactly what the afternoon costs?+

Two figures, no arithmetic. Teaching is £170 for the ninety-minute session or £145 for the hour, whatever the size of the group, and the venue’s hire cost is quoted next to it for whichever room you take. Hold it at your own place and there is no venue cost at all.

Is this theme better for a younger group?+

It skews that way in practice, but plenty of mixed parties choose it and it lands fine — the songs are inescapable enough that the aunties know them even if they would not admit it. If the group genuinely spans four decades we would talk it through in the reply and might point you somewhere broader.

Can the teacher come to our Airbnb instead?+

Yes, and it is one of the most popular ways to do this one. The teacher brings the music and works with whatever floor you have, anywhere from Jesmond out to the coast, and because there is no room to hire the venue side of the cost is nothing. Clear a space roughly the size of two sofas laid end to end.

How long before the wedding do people book?+

Usually between three months and a year, with the hen weekend itself pinned first and the class slotted in afterwards. Late enquiries are still worth sending — midweek and Sunday slots in the Toon open up regularly, and a date that looks impossible often is not.
