Barbie Hen Party Dance Class NewcastleJoyful, daft, brilliantly photogenic.
Since the film landed, this has been the theme groups pick when they want the afternoon to be unapologetically silly and the pictures to be unmissable. It is disco-pop energy with the seriousness turned all the way down: big poses, plenty of hair, a chorus everyone commits to at the same moment. Your teacher invents in the room, watching who your lot are before deciding what the routine should be, in one of three rooms we hire in the city or at whatever place wor bride’s party has taken over across the North East. £170 covers the ninety minutes for everyone, £145 the hour, plus the venue’s hire cost and nothing else. No experience is expected of anybody.
Send the date. Get two numbers back.
That is genuinely all this is. A date, a rough headcount, a thought on timing, and within the day you will know whether it is free, which of the three rooms suits a group your size, and exactly what the teaching and the room each cost. Planning it behind the bride’s back? Say so and everything stays with you. Undecided on the theme? Hold the slot now and change it later for nothing.

Silly on purpose, and it works.
There is a reason a Barbie hen party dance class fills up faster than almost anything else on the list right now, and it is not only the film. It gives a group permission. Themes that take themselves seriously leave people worrying about doing it properly; this one hands everybody a licence to be enormous and ridiculous for ninety minutes, and self-consciousness cannot really survive that. The choreography plays to it — poses held a beat too long, hair flicks nobody would attempt sober, a unison moment that makes a fifteen-strong dance hen party look like it rehearsed for weeks. It photographs better than any other hen do dance class we run, which matters more than people admit when the whole weekend ends up on a shared album. And of all the hen party ideas doing the rounds in the Quayside hotels this year, it is the one where the mother of the bride and the nineteen-year-old cousin end up equally involved.
Through the door
Coats down, a fast round of names, and something loud on before anyone can decide they are too sober for this.
Warm up, loosen up
Rolls, walks and a few poses held for laughs, all of which quietly turn out to be the spine of the routine.
Build the thing
Sections added a few counts at a time, with the bride given the bit in the middle everyone else points at.
Pose, run, film
Full run with the sound up, two takes minimum, and a final freeze that ends up as somebody’s profile picture.
built for the people in the room that day and then never used again
Room to build the whole thing, hold the poses properly and get the finish on film twice.
The short version for days with a boat trip at four and a table booked at seven.
Rentals near the Ouseburn, cottages out west, a big house in Sunderland. Teaching fee and no more.
nobody is counted at the door — hen party activities that price you per person reward the small groups and punish the big ones ✦
Named rooms, named costs.
These are rooms we hire, not rooms we own, and we say which one you have got in the quote rather than after you have paid. Two are minutes from Grey Street, which is usually where the evening starts; the third is up in the quieter end if that is where your party is based.
Straight from the group chat.
Fifteen women in every shade of pink the shops had left, and a routine that somehow made all of us look like we meant it. The video has been watched an unreasonable number of times.Chief bridesmaid · party of 15 · Newcastle
It was kept from me until we walked in the door. I have never been so pleased to be lied to by my own sister.Bride · party of 12 · Durham

Does the whole group have to wear pink?+
Not one bit of it is required, and not one bit of it comes from us — whatever your party wears is your party’s own doing. Most groups turn up in some shade of it because the photographs are irresistible, but a hen in black leggings gets precisely the same class and nobody blinks.
How camp is the routine going to be?+
As camp as your room wants it. The default setting is joyful and slightly ridiculous — big poses, a lot of hair, disco-pop energy played completely straight-faced — but if the group would rather have something cooler and sharper, say so on the day and the teacher takes it that way instead.
What is the all-in cost for a Barbie class?+
One teaching fee and one room cost, both shown to you before you commit. £170 for the ninety-minute session or £145 for the hour, flat for the group, and then whatever the venue charges to hire. Do it at your own hen house and that second figure is nothing.
Will this suit a group with very mixed ages?+
It does, largely because everyone under seventy has some relationship with this one, whether from the film or from about 1995. The steps are big rather than fiddly, the pace is set by whoever is finding it hardest, and the mothers of brides tend to end up nearer the front than they intended.
Can we keep the class a surprise from the bride?+
Yes, and it is a good surprise. Tell us in the enquiry that she does not know, use the organiser’s email for everything, and the teacher will play along at the door. It helps to warn us about anything she would hate being made to do in front of people.
Which room works best for a big Barbie party?+
For a large group we would usually point you at one of the two city-centre rooms for floor space and for how close they are to everything afterwards. You are told which room you have and what the hire costs in the quote, so nothing is left as a vague promise.
Do you bring anything for us to dance with?+
No — no props, no costumes, no accessories, nothing handed out at the start. Music and teaching are what you are paying for. If your group wants sashes, feather trims or a box of sunglasses, that is a job for whoever is doing the online orders, and it is genuinely not needed.
